Prior to practicing law, Jonathan taught poetry writing at the Iowa Writers Workshop, publishing a variety of poetry and short fiction and receiving an artist-in-residency fellowship in Vence, France, and worked as a chef in Boston and Annapolis.

Jonathan Wall is a senior civil litigation associate at Hyatt & Weber, P.A., and leads the firm’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Creditors’ Rights and Intellictual Property practices.

Since 2005, Jonathan has been lead counsel in 300 Maryland state and US District Court general litigation cases.  These cases have involved a broad spectrum of matters, including foreclosures, adoption, guardianships, contracts, civil rights, legal malpractice, malicious prosecution, shareholder/partner litigation, police brutality, will challenges and other estate matters, patent infringement, fraud, confessed judgments and related litigation, landlord/tenant, divorce, riparian and construction defects and mold, employer/employee wage and other disputes, medical malpractice and other personal injury, and insurance litigation.  A few of his reported cases include Jackson v. 2109 Brandywine, LLC, 180 Md. App. 535, 952 A.2d 304 (2008) and Knight v. Princess Builders, Inc., 393 Md. 31, 899 A.2d 156 (2006).

During the last three years, Jonathan has been lead counsel in more than 300 Maryland bankruptcy or bankruptcy-related cases, frequently involving the extension and violations of the automatic stay, borrower adversity complaints, claims litigation, asset protection and restraining orders, contested plan confirmations, fraudulent conveyance claims, preference actions and many other forms of contested matters in bankruptcy cases.  His clients include and have included asset-based lenders, financial institutions holding secured and unsecured claims, equipment lessors, landlords, manufacturers, lienholders, taxing authoritiesand purchasers of distressed loans or assets.  In addition to creditor representation, Jonathan has also extensive experience representing borrowers, guarantors and other debtors in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcy proceedings, restructurings and litigation matters.

Since joining Hyatt & Weber, P.A. in 2003, Jonathan has had and continues to have an extensive transactional practice, involving corporations and quasi-governmental entities, estate planning, estate and trust administration and insurance coverage.  Jonathan represents governmental and quasi-governmental agencies in matters involving construction, procurement, ethics, governance, state and federal constitutional law, environmental law, contracting, mechanics liens, lead paint and other remediation, leasing and land use.  Jonathan is also extensively involved with the administration of decedent estates, in many instances serving as a successor personal representative at the request of the Court when administrative challenges arise; such representation often requires rapidly identifying and marshalling assets, negotiating with secured and other creditors with regard to claims, and sensitively and successfully addressing divergent beneficiary needs.

Jonathan’s diverse intellectual property practice encompasses a broad range of matters and a wide assortment of corporate clients, including multi-national engineering firms to Fort Lauderdale-based designers and manufacturers of multi-million dollar yachts, writers and regional travel magazine publishers to local fashion accessory manufacturers, artists and art studios, galleries and restaurateurs.  Mr. Wall’s transactional experience includes corporate governance matters; US and international trademark prosecution, copyright and hull design prosecution and protection and technology transfer and licensing.

Jonathan contributes a substantial amount of his time to providing pro bono or reduced fee services to particularly needy clients, including churches, synagogues, charities and victims of fraud and abuse.

Jonathan is a graduate of Boston University (B.A., English Literature, cum laude, 1985), the University of Iowa (Fellow, The Iowa Writers Workshop, M.F.A, 1988), and the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D., 1995) (Executive Editor, Intellectual Property Law Journal). Jonathan has been an Annapolis/Anne Arundel County resident since 1988.  He is admitted to practice before all Maryland state and federal courts, and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the Anne Arundel County Bar Association.
